Keeping a varied fleet of construction and mobile plant dependable is the core of this Queensland position. A long-standing construction and engineering company is after a Diesel Fitter / Heavy Plant Mechanic with real time on heavy machinery, sharp diagnostic instincts for complicated faults and repair work that is finished properly.
Expect much more than workshop servicing: the role moves across specialised plant and out into the field when equipment plays up. Your trade credentials, work history and hands-on experience will be central to how your application is assessed. Suitably qualified overseas applicants who satisfy the required experience and visa criteria can be offered employer sponsorship, which makes this a considered next step for heavy plant specialists in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh.
Key Responsibilities
- Look after a varied fleet of heavy mobile and construction plant, from excavators and cranes to piling rigs and the machinery that goes with them
- Run scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance programs
- Investigate mechanical faults to find the right fix, and track down and repair faults in hydraulic systems
- Find and resolve electrical faults on heavy mobile machines
- Respond to breakdowns in the field, ranking them by urgency and finishing field-service jobs efficiently so equipment is back in working order
- Carry out onsite inspections to spot what needs maintaining or repairing, often working alone at remote or onsite call-outs
- Swap out mechanical and hydraulic parts that are worn, damaged or have failed, using the right diagnostic gear and workshop tools
- Run post-repair tests to make sure each machine works safely and reliably
- Log every service, repair, inspection and part replacement
- Keep housekeeping, safety and workshop practice to a high standard and observe every relevant workplace health and safety procedure
Requirements & Eligibility
- A recognised trade qualification (Diesel Fitting, Mobile Plant Mechanic, Heavy Plant Mechanic or equivalent)
- Demonstrated industry experience keeping heavy mobile plant maintained and repaired, and a strong background in earthmoving, construction or specialised heavy equipment
- Practical knowledge of cranes, excavators, piling rigs or comparable machinery
- Advanced ability in mechanical diagnostics and fault-finding, with sound knowledge of hydraulic systems and repairing their components
- Experience diagnosing electrical issues on mobile plant
- Previous breakdown response or field-service experience
- Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs without constant supervision, and comfort working across both construction sites and the workshop
- Current Australian driver's licence or relevant eligibility to obtain one
- Strong safety awareness and professional work practices, with a self-motivated, adaptable and reliable approach
- Ability to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and professional experience
- Experience with Komatsu, CAT, Liebherr, Hitachi, Grove, Tadano, Terex, Franna or comparable equipment will be advantageous; employer sponsorship is on offer to eligible overseas applicants
