Diesel Motor Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

  • Find and fix faults in diesel engines and heavy vehicles, tracing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical problems with diagnostic tools and software
  • Inspect heavy vehicles to pinpoint what maintenance or repairs they need
  • Handle servicing, repairs and maintenance on diesel-powered systems, including scheduled services and preventative maintenance programs
  • Finish mechanical repairs promptly and to a professional standard
  • Keep job sheets, service records and maintenance documentation accurate and up to date
  • Work safely in both the workshop and outdoors, following workshop procedures and health and safety requirements and keeping the space clean and organised
  • Keep colleagues informed about repairs, faults and maintenance needs

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing heavy vehicles
  • A relevant mechanical qualification and/or demonstrable industry experience
  • Full Class 1 driver's licence or equivalent; a Class 4 driver's licence is advantageous
  • Strong practical knowledge of diesel engines and heavy vehicle systems, with proven fault-finding across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Experienced with diagnostic equipment and software
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, and a reliable, safety-conscious, professional approach
  • Able to complete service paperwork, keep accurate records and carry out physically demanding manual mechanical duties
  • Willing to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Able to pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check and to provide genuine, verifiable identity, employment and qualification documentation
  • Existing New Zealand work rights or eligibility for employer-sponsored work authorization
