Truck Mechanic

A well-established Australian heavy vehicle business is adding capable Heavy Vehicle Mechanics to its Queensland team at the Port of Brisbane. Key Responsibilities

  • Track down faults on heavy commercial vehicles and their associated systems, resolving mechanical issues efficiently
  • Handle routine servicing and preventative maintenance, working to manufacturer specifications throughout
  • Carry out mechanical repairs, swap out components and complete rebuilds
  • Test and inspect each vehicle once the repair work is done
  • Keep job cards and workshop records accurate and up to date
  • Head out to breakdowns at customer or offsite locations when required, and take your turn on the workshop on-call roster
  • Uphold high standards of safety, workmanship and technical accuracy while working closely with fellow technicians and workshop staff, and help with the practical training of apprentices
  • Explain completed work to customers in a professional manner

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A recognised Heavy Vehicle Mechanic qualification or another relevant mechanical qualification, backed by documents supporting your qualifications and work history
  • Proven, practical experience maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles, with previous trade experience you are able to demonstrate and verify
  • Sharp mechanical diagnostics and the ability to solve problems methodically
  • A good grasp of quality and safety procedures in the workshop
  • Dependable and team-oriented, with a professional manner in customer service and communication
  • Current car licence
  • HR licence is desirable, and a Forklift licence is desirable too
  • Kenworth or DAF experience is desirable
  • Experienced overseas heavy vehicle mechanics are encouraged to apply, interstate heavy vehicle mechanics are welcome, and second to fourth year mechanic apprentices may also be considered
  • Readiness to take on continuing technical and manufacturer training
  • Eligible overseas candidates can be offered sponsorship
