Quality Assurance Officer

Manufacturing · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Ask us

Whether you currently work in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh, a considered next step in food quality may be waiting in Auckland. A manufacturer of food and dietary supplements is seeking a Quality Assurance Officer for a full-time position.

The operation covers dairy and nutritional powders, powdered drink products, sachets, hard capsules and tablets, and the role sits at the centre of its quality management and New Zealand export compliance. The employer values hands-on quality systems experience in food manufacturing; a purely laboratory background may not meet the brief.

A considered application begins with a refined CV. Set out the internal audit programmes you have run, your hands-on RMP and GMP experience and any export certification work, wherever you gained it, then refine your CV with Build AI CV before you take this step.

Key Responsibilities

  • Custodian of the quality framework: the NP3, RMP and GMP systems are kept current and continually refined, while manufacturing is held to internal procedures, the approved RMP, MPI requirements and any applicable OMARs, verified through compliance checks on traceability, hygiene, storage, packing, production, export and product release.
  • Audit preparation and coordination: readying documentation, records, the site and the relevant departments ahead of verification visits and audits by recognised agencies, MPI, third parties and customers, and coordinating those visits; designing and implementing an internal audit programme and conducting it independently, from audit to written report and follow-up.
  • Record and incident review: a close reading of cleaning, warehouse, manufacturing, monitoring, packing and product release records; ownership of deviations, CAPA, customer complaints, non-conforming products and root cause investigations; and participation in mock recalls, validation, traceability exercises and risk assessments.
  • Export certification: working within MPI's E-cert system on export applications and documentation, judging export eligibility against the relevant OMAR requirements, and drafting and reviewing Health Certificates, Eligibility Declarations, Transfers and their supporting records.
  • Materials, products and suppliers: approval of packaging materials, finished products, raw materials and intermediate products; testing commissioned from accredited third-party laboratories, with any non-conforming outcomes pursued; accuracy and compliance reviews of labels, specifications, manufacturing documents and formulations; and support for supplier approval, supplier documentation review and the monitoring of supplier performance.
  • Training and management support: GMP, quality system and food safety training for warehouse, production, packing and other teams, and assistance to the QA Manager across export compliance, quality, regulatory and food safety activity.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A relevant qualification in Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science or Quality Management, or in a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in quality systems or QA, gained within New Zealand food manufacturing.
  • A background in a similar manufacturing operation, whether nutritional powders, tablets, dairy products, capsules, dietary supplements, sachets or other export food products.
  • Sound command of New Zealand RMP requirements, encompassing verification, record review and ongoing maintenance, together with a good working knowledge of RMP, food safety management systems and GMP.
  • An understanding of the relevant OMAR requirements.
  • Practical use of MPI's E-cert system.
  • A history of coordinating audits by customers, MPI, third parties or recognised agencies, and demonstrated capability to plan internal audits, carry them out independently, write the reports and see corrective actions through.
  • Experience overseeing non-conformances, CAPA, root cause investigations, deviations and complaints.
  • Strong English, both reading and writing, sufficient to interpret standards, export documentation, regulations and audit reports, plus Mandarin communication for day-to-day operational coordination.
  • Proficiency across Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Preferred: internal auditor training or qualification; experience in a dairy or animal-product RMP manufacturing facility; involvement in recognised agency audits by AsureQuality, MPI or others; knowledge of export requirements for food bound for China, Hong Kong or other overseas markets; experience with Transfers, Eligibility Declarations and Health Certificate applications; knowledge of MPI export certification and dairy export processes.
