Leading a café well means more than watching a team. On Bribie Island, near Brisbane, a Café Manager is wanted who has worked the coffee machine for real, handles people and rosters with confidence, and keeps service, stock, costs and the customer experience on course.
Candidates should be able to show a credible, solid work history, practical barista ability and the leadership to own a busy venue. There is also room to shape menus, specials and events that keep the café close to its regulars. For experienced hospitality managers in Dubai, Doha or elsewhere in the Gulf, it is a considered career step.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the café's daily running, set the tone for a positive culture and build lasting relationships with customers
- Coach, lead and coordinate the baristas and front-of-house team, and teach them beverage preparation, service standards and café procedures
- Stay hands-on as a barista yourself so every coffee meets a consistent standard
- Draw up rosters that keep each day's staffing efficient
- Help develop seasonal menus, specials and the drinks selection, and organise live entertainment, pop-ups and private events, liaising with suppliers, performers and event partners
- Watch inventory, place orders and hold stock at sensible levels, while tracking operating costs and assisting with basic financial administration
- Uphold food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements and keep the venue clean, organised and welcoming
- Respond to customer feedback and resolve service concerns effectively
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years in café or restaurant management, and strong practical barista experience using commercial espresso equipment
- Where the Queensland sponsorship pathways apply: a Diploma in Hospitality
- Sponsorship eligibility also calls for a minimum 3 years of Australian hospitality management experience once the relevant diploma has been completed
- Qualifications and employment history that can be backed by verifiable evidence, which you are able to provide
- Demonstrated team leadership and staff management capability, with strong rostering, organisational and time-management skills
- Understanding of stock control, cost-of-goods and basic financial processes; event coordination or menu development experience is an advantage
- Strong communication and customer service skills, and a reliable, flexible attitude to evening and weekend work
- Current food-safety certification, along with valid work rights or eligibility for sponsorship
