Key Responsibilities
- Cook and plate dishes that match the menu and the kitchen's set standards, keeping quality, consistency, portion control and presentation where they should be
- Get ingredients prepped and mise en place set up before service starts and as it runs
- Organise your cooking workload efficiently to keep pace with service, pitching in with general kitchen duties where needed
- Collaborate closely with fellow cooks to keep the workflow orderly, backing up senior kitchen staff through daily operations and each service
- Inspect incoming ingredients and flag any stock that is running short or needed
- Keep prep and cooking spaces spotless and tidy, store and handle food correctly, and follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures
- Deal courteously and professionally with customer requests about dishes and how they are prepared
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 1–2 years of commercial cooking experience, gained at least partly in a busy hospitality, restaurant or pub-style kitchen
- Ability to turn out varied meals consistently and efficiently, accurately following recipes, kitchen procedures and instructions
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and safe food-handling practices; holding food safety certification is advantageous
- Sound time management and the ability to set priorities in the middle of service, combined with a dependable work ethic, a positive attitude toward the team and clear communication with colleagues in the kitchen
- Availability for flexible rostering that covers evenings, weekends and public holidays
