Chefs who have worked in Japanese kitchens in Dubai, Doha or elsewhere in the Gulf may find a steady next step in Melbourne. A growing hospitality team in Victoria wants a Japanese Cuisine Chef who brings proven kitchen experience, reliability and a professional mindset to an evening-focused operation.

You should be able to show genuine experience in commercial Japanese cuisine and take pride in consistent results. Beyond technical skill, the employer values people who are dependable, respectful and positive, and who work well within a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook and prepare Japanese dishes to established kitchen standards, following set recipes, preparation methods and procedures
  • Complete mise en place and food preparation ahead of service, handling prep tasks efficiently through the evening
  • Keep food quality, presentation and portion control consistent
  • Back up the kitchen team when service gets busy and communicate clearly with chefs and colleagues
  • Uphold high standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness, storing and handling ingredients correctly to protect quality
  • Help with stock preparation and keep the kitchen generally organised
  • Take instructions, feedback and workplace training positively, contributing to a respectful, cooperative and productive kitchen culture
  • Perform reliably and consistently across every scheduled shift

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant Japanese cuisine or professional kitchen experience, including proven commercial kitchen work with practical cooking skills
  • Genuine understanding of Japanese food preparation and kitchen operations
  • Able to perform effectively in a fast-paced service setting, staying calm and organised under pressure
  • Strong reliability, attendance and personal accountability, with a professional attitude and good workplace discipline
  • Respectful communication and strong teamwork
  • A positive approach to learning and development, and willingness to undertake training and adapt to workplace requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to building a stable, long-term career in hospitality
  • Valid Australian work rights are required; sponsorship is available for the right onshore candidate if a suitable full-time position becomes available
