A hospitality business in Northland, New Zealand, is recruiting a Chef with a proven track record in Indian and intercontinental cooking. This is a role where what you can actually do on the pass counts most.

You will own daily preparation and cooking, and also play a part in menu development, kitchen organisation, stock control and food-quality standards. The ideal person brings real experience, steady consistency and confidence in a working commercial kitchen.

For experienced chefs cooking in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh today, it is a considered next step into New Zealand hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook Indian and intercontinental dishes to a dependable standard
  • Run daily food preparation and keep the kitchen well organised
  • Use professional cooking techniques and methods throughout
  • Hold taste, portion size, quality and presentation steady on every plate
  • Contribute to menu planning, specials and the creation of new dishes
  • Keep track of ingredient use to help control food costs
  • Order supplies and keep stock at the right levels
  • Coordinate preparation with the rest of the kitchen team and keep workflow efficient through prep and service
  • Meet food safety, hygiene and allergen-management requirements
  • Keep the kitchen clean, safe and orderly
  • Give practical guidance to other kitchen staff when needed
  • Help the kitchen perform consistently when service is busy

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A demonstrated background as a professional Chef, with proven hands-on work in Indian and intercontinental cuisine
  • Solid food-preparation ability in a commercial kitchen, and capable of running prep and cooking on an independent basis
  • Grasps how menu planning and food-cost management work, and knows the procedures for stock control and kitchen inventory
  • Strong understanding of the food safety and hygiene requirements, and capable of holding food quality and presentation steady
  • Organised and dependable, communicating well and working as part of a team
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Holding a relevant cookery or hospitality qualification is advantageous
  • Time spent in a café or restaurant is advantageous
  • Having developed menu items and specials before is advantageous
  • A history of supervising, guiding or training kitchen staff is advantageous
  • Overseas candidates must meet applicable New Zealand employment and immigration requirements
