You will contribute to daily kitchen operations, keep food standards consistent, support menu development and help create an efficient, positive workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan preparation needs before each service and keep mise-en-place effective across your assigned sections
  • Cook a broad range of dishes to established quality standards, presenting each with consistent attention to appearance, portion control and quality
  • Run a kitchen section on your own through busy service
  • Contribute to menu planning, seasonal offerings and new dish development
  • Use professional cooking techniques for consistent results, checking food quality from preparation to final presentation
  • Help with purchasing, ordering and stock management, keeping food storage, stock rotation and temperature controls correct
  • Track ingredient usage and take practical steps to cut wastage
  • Uphold high standards of kitchen cleanliness and personal hygiene under Australian food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements
  • Communicate clearly with kitchen and front-of-house colleagues so food goes out accurately and on time, and help keep operations smooth in high-volume periods
  • Train, guide and support junior team members, passing on suitable cooking techniques and preparation methods
  • Follow workplace recipes, procedures and operational standards, contributing to a respectful, reliable, customer-focused kitchen culture

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Recognised Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum five years of relevant commercial kitchen experience, showing strong professional cooking ability
  • Able to supply evidence of relevant qualifications and employment history
  • At ease working without supervision in a commercial kitchen, and proven at managing a section during service
  • A practical feel for menu development and seasonal dishes, plus know-how in stock control, food storage and keeping kitchen wastage down
  • A strong grasp of food safety and hygiene procedures, and the ability to keep quality steady under pressure
  • Strong communication and teamwork, including the capacity to supervise, train or support junior kitchen staff
  • Well organised, good with time and attentive to detail, with a professional attitude and commitment to workplace standards
  • Available for evenings, weekends and public holidays
  • Must meet applicable Australian employment and sponsorship eligibility requirements
