Chef

Hospitality · Sydney NSW, Australia · Full-Time · $33/hr

A growing hospitality business in New South Wales is looking for an experienced Café Chef who shares its respect for genuine experience, professional standards and long-term development, and who wants a career rather than simply the next job.

The kitchen centres on daytime service, quality ingredients and well-executed café and breakfast dishes. You will own the food you produce, keep standards consistently high, share ideas, support menu development and help sharpen kitchen systems. As the business expands, capable team members may move into senior chef and kitchen leadership roles.

Sponsorship is available for an eligible candidate who meets the required experience and role criteria, and people with unrestricted Australian working rights are also encouraged to apply. You will need to demonstrate your professional background and suitability during recruitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook café and breakfast dishes to a consistently high standard, paying close attention to flavour, seasoning, texture and presentation
  • Keep portions, preparation and plating uniform, even when service is under pressure
  • Work quickly and efficiently through busy breakfast and lunch services
  • Handle quality ingredients with high preparation standards, using sound prep and storage methods to cut food waste
  • Work closely with senior chefs and the wider kitchen team, communicating clearly and professionally during prep and service
  • Put forward practical ideas for specials, seasonal dishes and menu improvements
  • Help refine kitchen processes and find ways to lift efficiency, organisation and service performance
  • Uphold food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards at all times, keeping sections clean, organised and ready for service
  • Monitor stock and support inventory management
  • Help train and support developing members of the kitchen team
  • Own your responsibilities, tackle issues proactively and take feedback constructively as you keep developing your culinary skills
  • Help build a respectful, accountable and professional kitchen culture

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3 years of professional chef experience, including demonstrated café, breakfast or daytime kitchen work
  • Proven ability to perform well in a high-volume service environment and juggle competing priorities during busy services
  • Strong hands-on cooking skills and a good grasp of flavour balance
  • Able to meet food quality and presentation standards consistently
  • A genuine interest in ingredient-led cooking and quality produce
  • Strong time-management, organisation and preparation abilities
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and safety requirements
  • Strong communication and collaborative teamwork skills, with a reliable, accountable approach to professional responsibilities
  • Open to feedback and continuous improvement, and able to contribute ideas beyond standard recipe execution
  • Experience in bread, baking or pastry is advantageous
  • Available to work weekends as rostered and public holidays when required
  • Able to undertake early morning starts from approximately 6:00am, with reliable transport for early shifts
  • Applicants must currently be based in Sydney
  • Sponsorship available for an eligible and suitably qualified candidate; candidates with unrestricted Australian working rights are encouraged to apply
