Construction Technician/Assistant

Key Responsibilities

  • Back up experienced tradespeople and supervisors on residential, commercial and infrastructure builds, and take on extra construction support duties as required
  • Get worksites ready by organising materials, tools and equipment, keeping areas clean, clearing construction waste and setting up temporary structures and safety barriers
  • Help prepare, mix, pour, spread and finish concrete, and measure, cut, fix and place reinforcing such as steel bars and mesh
  • Assist carpenters, bricklayers, roofers, floor layers, plasterers, painters, glaziers, plumbers and drainlayers with their work
  • Carry out excavation, trenching, levelling and material handling as part of general site preparation
  • Help install pipes, fittings, drainage components and other building systems, including pathways for heating, cooling and ventilation
  • Handle hand tools and basic power tools safely in line with site rules
  • Spot hazards, defects or problems and report them to your supervisor, following health and safety procedures and PPE standards at all times
  • Cooperate with the site crew to hit deadlines and quality targets

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 12 months in the construction industry with proven practical exposure, and the ability to show genuine construction skills and past site responsibilities
  • Physically fit for manual work in tough conditions
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and site procedures, along with experience using basic hand and power tools
  • Works well in a team and follows supervisors' instructions
  • Dependable attendance, a positive outlook and willingness to pitch in, plus a commitment to learning New Zealand construction standards and workplace expectations
