Cook

Hospitality · Townsville, Northern QLD, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

A hospitality employer in Australia wants a capable chef specialising in Indian cuisine, with a proven record in commercial kitchens, to join a busy restaurant operation. Reliable cooking skills, strong kitchen discipline and hands-on experience are what count.

Beyond cooking Indian dishes with confidence, you will understand what it takes to run an effective kitchen: organising preparation, holding food quality, and keeping stock, costs and wastage under control so daily operations stay smooth.

Applicants are assessed on relevant experience, practical skills and overall suitability. For cooks working in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh, this is a considered next move.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook Indian dishes to established quality and presentation standards, keeping recipes, portions, flavour and presentation consistent
  • Plan and organise prep needs ahead of each day’s service
  • Keep cooking and prep efficient through busy trading periods, with a smooth workflow across preparation and cooking areas
  • Track ingredient usage and help keep food costs down
  • Manage stock levels, help with purchasing, and receive, check, store and rotate supplies correctly
  • Contribute to menu preparation, recipe development and dish costing
  • Coordinate kitchen activity so service runs on time
  • Train and guide junior kitchen staff, and help supervise kitchen employees when required
  • Uphold food safety, hygiene and cleanliness, and reduce food waste through sound prep and stock practices
  • Collaborate closely with front-of-house and kitchen colleagues

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Approximately 3–4 years of relevant commercial cooking experience
  • Demonstrated experience preparing Indian cuisine in a professional kitchen, backed by a strong understanding of Indian ingredients, spices, recipes and cooking techniques
  • Background in a busy restaurant or high-volume food service setting, maintaining quality and productivity through busy services
  • Hospitality qualification or relevant formal training is advantageous
  • Knowledge of food costing, portion control, kitchen cost management, stock control, ordering and waste minimisation
  • Strong organisational, time-management, communication and teamwork skills
  • Sound knowledge of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices
  • A professional, dependable and positive work attitude
  • Able to work well within a diverse hospitality team
  • Willing to complete relevant employment, experience and eligibility verification
