Furniture Upholsterer

A furniture restoration and recovering business with a long history in New Zealand needs a Furniture Upholsterer whose skills are backed by genuine industry experience.
The role is hands-on and suits someone who already knows the upholstery trade well and can tackle different pieces confidently without lengthy training. Key Responsibilities
- Upholster and recover contemporary, traditional and antique furniture, completing restoration and recovering work to a professional standard
- Choose and use the right upholstery approach for each type of furniture, working on projects independently with minimal help
- Operate upholstery machinery, tools and workshop equipment safely
- Prepare, position and shift furniture frames in production, lifting them on and off work benches
- Help load and unload furniture for transport
- Hold workmanship, accuracy and finish to a high standard, coordinating with the colleagues who handle sewing, cutting and frame construction
- Keep the workshop organised, safe and clean
- Work 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, and support overtime when the workload increases
Requirements & Eligibility
- At least 5 years of professional furniture upholstery experience, verifiable and covering hands-on work across many furniture styles
- Able to complete upholstery work with limited supervision
- A strong practical grasp of restoration and recovering techniques
- Able to use the relevant upholstery equipment and tools safely
- Physically capable of handling and lifting furniture frames
- Close attention to detail and finishing standards that stay consistent
- Dependable, able to keep a full-time schedule and willing to work overtime when business demands require
- Sewing and cutting skills are an advantage, and furniture frame-making experience is also an advantage
- You must meet applicable requirements for sponsorship consideration
