A new restaurant in Ballarat, Victoria, is assembling its opening kitchen, and it is a chance for proven kitchen professionals to have their background properly recognised. The lead appointment is an accomplished Head Chef who will run the kitchen, set high standards and help shape an Italian-inspired menu. Experienced Chefs, Cooks and Kitchen Hands are wanted alongside.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the kitchen and its people, training, guiding and supporting each team member
- Cook and plate high-quality Italian and European-inspired dishes, holding taste, quality and presentation steady from plate to plate
- Help shape the menu, recipes, specials and seasonal offerings
- Run food preparation, purchasing, ordering and stock rotation, keeping watch on stock levels, food costs, kitchen resources and labour planning
- Keep kitchen procedures accurate and consistent, with full compliance on food safety, hygiene and workplace standards in a clean, safe and organised kitchen
- Stay efficient and composed through busy service periods
- Keep communication flowing between the kitchen and management, and help build a positive, professional, team-focused workplace
Requirements & Eligibility
- Commercial kitchen experience that is relevant and verifiable, and the ability to demonstrate your culinary skills and professional background
- Head Chef applicants: a minimum 3 years as a senior chef or Head Chef
- Applicants for the other available roles: previous experience as a Chef, Cook or Kitchen Hand
- Italian or modern European cuisine experience is highly regarded; relevant culinary qualifications or recognised trade training are advantageous
- Strong leadership and communication skills where the position is a senior one
- Knowledge of food costing, ordering, stock control and kitchen operations, together with a strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
- The ability to hold high standards at a fast pace, a reliable, organised and professional approach, and effective teamwork within the kitchen
- Availability for required hospitality shifts, including evenings and weekends; employer sponsorship may be available for eligible applicants, subject to skills, experience and applicable visa requirements
