Head Chef

Seasoned kitchen leaders looking for their next move will find real scope here. An established Head Chef or experienced Sous Chef is needed to take charge of a busy hospitality kitchen, bringing practical skill, leadership experience and commercial understanding.

Cooking talent is only part of the brief. The role draws together food quality, team leadership, kitchen organisation, cost awareness and reliable service delivery. You will have input into menus, grow the kitchen team and keep standards high across restaurant service and a range of functions and events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold overall responsibility for the kitchen's daily operation, keeping it professional, clean and well organised
  • Lead, supervise and grow the kitchen team, preparing rosters to suit operational needs
  • Plan and deliver menus to a consistently high standard, supporting seasonal menu development and food promotions
  • Keep quality, presentation and consistency strong across every food service
  • Coordinate restaurant and breakfast services, and manage catering for conferences, weddings and private functions
  • Control purchasing, stock and kitchen inventory while watching food costs and minimising wastage
  • Uphold food safety, HACCP and workplace health and safety standards
  • Work alongside other hospitality departments so service is delivered smoothly
  • Review kitchen processes and bring in operational improvements

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrated professional experience as a Head Chef or experienced Sous Chef, with strong commercial kitchen experience
  • Relevant background in hotels, resorts, restaurants or similar hospitality settings
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a kitchen team and to develop and implement menus
  • Practical knowledge of food costing, kitchen budgeting, purchasing, stock control and inventory management
  • Knowledge of HACCP and Australian food safety practices
  • Able to handle multiple services and functions in a busy environment
  • Strong capabilities in staff training and development, plus strong communication and team leadership skills
  • Good time-management and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of kitchen operations
  • Professional experience that can be supported through appropriate employment documentation, and the ability to satisfy applicable Australian employment and sponsorship requirements
