Restaurant Manager
Hospitality · Christchurch Central, Canterbury, New Zealand · Full-Time · $29/hr
Great restaurants are run by leaders, not shift supervisors. A permanent full-time Restaurant Manager position is open in Christchurch Central, New Zealand, for a hospitality professional whose leadership record, capabilities and background genuinely match the job.
You would take responsibility for the performance, development and consistency of a busy front-of-house operation, acting as the key link between management, hospitality staff and guests. The aim is clear service standards, a supported team and a consistent experience for every customer. For restaurant managers in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh considering their next move, it is a role worth weighing.
Key Responsibilities
- Be accountable for how the whole front-of-house performs, and make service and operating expectations clear to everyone
- Guide a mixed crew of local and international hospitality workers, coaching each person to raise the quality of service and their own performance, and giving honest, constructive feedback on results
- Open and close the venue according to procedure, and handle the end-of-day cash-up and money handling
- Look after bookings and reservation needs, and keep guests moving smoothly when the restaurant is at its fullest
- Help put together staff schedules and rosters, and keep the Directors and General Management up to date
- Apply house policies and procedures the same way every shift, step in quickly when a service problem appears, and make sure alcohol is served responsibly and in line with the applicable requirements
- Win guest loyalty and repeat visits, and back initiatives that raise customer satisfaction and revenue
- Foster a positive, professional atmosphere and partner with management to make operations smoother and more consistent
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years' experience in restaurant management or a comparable senior hospitality position, including hands-on oversight of front-of-house
- Proven ability to lead, train and develop hospitality employees, handled with a mature, professional people-management style
- A strong understanding of busy restaurants running several sittings, and skill in managing guest flow when trading is at its peak
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with strong customer service and a talent for building relationships
- Working knowledge of hospitality service standards, and a sound grasp of liquor service and licensing compliance
- Well organised and decisive, composed and effective under pressure, and willing to learn the venue's own products, systems and procedures
- Flexible availability for evenings and weekends, and able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week across 5 days
- Hospitality employment experience that is genuine and verifiable; candidates must be able to provide appropriate information or documentation supporting their professional background where required
- Overseas candidates who meet the position criteria may be considered for employer-sponsored employment and immigration support
