A well-established hospitality venue in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales is looking for an experienced Sous Chef to strengthen its kitchen. The position is full-time and suits a passionate chef who wants to grow professionally within a supportive, professional team.
Working side by side with the Head Chef, you will help produce high-quality café dining and event menus while keeping food quality, kitchen efficiency and food safety at a high level. Service is mainly daytime, with occasional functions and events, which makes for an excellent work-life balance. For chefs in Dubai or Abu Dhabi weighing a move from UAE to Australia, it is a considered next step.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Head Chef on planning and developing the menu
- Cook and plate high-quality meals to set recipes and presentation standards, keeping preparation and presentation consistent
- Support the café and function catering, adapting dishes to suit dietary requirements and guest preferences
- Keep an eye on stock levels, help manage inventory and cut food waste through smart kitchen practices
- Uphold high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and food quality, applying HACCP principles and food safety procedures at all times
- Meet workplace health and safety requirements
- Collaborate with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to keep things running efficiently when service is busy
- Help create a positive, professional team environment
Requirements & Eligibility
- Diploma of Hospitality or a higher qualification
- Minimum 1.5 years working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen, including previous experience under the supervision of a Head Chef
- Strong knowledge of hygiene, food safety and HACCP procedures
- Experience in food preparation and menu planning
- Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen while holding high standards of food quality and consistency
- Excellent communication and teamwork, plus strong time management and organisational abilities
- Willing to work weekends and extra hours during peak periods
