An established accounting practice in Cairns, Queensland, is looking for a capable Senior Accountant who will take ownership of client work and help drive the next stage of the firm's growth.
This is a role for a professional with genuine Australian public practice experience, solid technical tax knowledge and the assurance to deal directly with SME clients. Meaningful client responsibility comes with it, inside a friendly team that encourages continued learning and progression.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry full ownership of accounting and taxation work across a portfolio of SME clients
- Develop lasting professional relationships with clients and liaise with them directly on accounting, tax and wider business matters
- Produce accurate tax returns and financial statements within efficient timeframes
- Put practical Division 7A knowledge to work and handle Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) matters
- Support clients with their accounting needs and business advisory requirements
- Play a part in advisory projects and other value-added services
- Hold every file to a high professional and compliance standard
- Partner with colleagues so clients receive consistent outcomes
- Build the technical and leadership capability needed to step up into a Manager role
Requirements & Eligibility
- At least 4 years spent in Australian Public Practice
- CA or CPA qualified, or currently nearing completion of the qualification
- A strong, practical grounding in Australian tax compliance, with hands-on knowledge of Division 7A, CGT and FBT
- Demonstrated experience with SME clients and a proven ability to manage client relationships on your own
- Excellent written and verbal communication, supported by strong professional presentation and interpersonal skills
- A high level of attention to detail
- A reliable work ethic, a professional attitude and a demonstrated willingness to learn and take on greater responsibility
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative accounting environment
