An established arboricultural business in Waikato wants an experienced Climbing Arborist who is assured at height and equally willing to support ground operations and broader tree-care projects.
Climbing skill has to be proven, not just listed: it shows in real experience, safe practice and results that hold up job after job. The work ranges across residential and commercial properties as well as council, utility and land-clearance projects, with an experienced crew, professional equipment, continuing training and structured health and safety systems behind you.

Key Responsibilities
- Climb to carry out tree maintenance and management work
- Handle pruning, trimming and full tree removals with techniques suited to each job
- Switch to ground crew tasks whenever the job calls for it
- Run chainsaws, climbing gear, machinery and the associated tools with safety front of mind
- Hold to strict safety standards whenever working aloft
- Contribute to council, utility, residential, commercial and land-clearance projects
- Judge each tree's condition and choose an appropriate method of work
- Stay efficient and professional on every site, keeping the area orderly and meeting site safety requirements
- Stay in step with fellow climbing arborists and the ground crew through each project
- Look after personal protective equipment and arboricultural tools, checking them regularly
- Join toolbox talks, health and safety meetings and refresher training, and pursue extra training to deepen technical and industry knowledge
- Speak professionally with clients and colleagues, and stay reliable as outdoor settings and project conditions vary
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum Level 3 NZQA Arboriculture qualification or comparable industry credentials
- Minimum 2 years' practical climbing experience
- A demonstrated background covering ground-based as well as aerial arboricultural tasks
- Class 1 Driver Licence, Restricted or higher
- Fit to take on demanding physical work outdoors without compromising safety
- At ease up at height, whatever the weather brings
- Owns their work, keeps a dependable work ethic and brings a cooperative, upbeat attitude to the crew
- Treats workplace health and safety as a genuine commitment
- Delivers workmanship and professionalism of a high standard
- Can show real, genuine arboricultural skills and experience
- Level 3 Utility Arboriculture qualification is an advantage
- Class 2 Driver Licence is an advantage
- Relevant overseas qualifications and experience may be assessed for suitability
- Applicants must be able to supply appropriate evidence of their qualifications and employment experience
- International applicants must meet New Zealand immigration and employment eligibility requirements
