Bakery Manager

A busy bakery department in Taranaki, New Zealand, needs a capable professional to own its performance, its people and where it goes next. Key Responsibilities
- Answer for the bakery department's overall day-to-day performance, working with wider store management on business objectives and contributing to budgeting, cost control and commercial results
- Plan production from sales patterns and expected demand, coordinating output so products are on the shelf when customers want them
- Hold consistent standards for presentation, freshness, portion control and baking quality
- Apply your bakery know-how to improve processes and products, and create new lines that answer market opportunities and customer preferences
- Keep track of ordering, stock, product availability and wastage
- Support productivity and sound labour planning across the department
- Guide bakery staff with clear direction, training, coaching and continuing support, building a culture of collaboration, accountability and high standards
- Stay hands-on in bakery operations, giving practical help when required and resolving operational issues as they arise
- Check compliance with workplace health and safety, hygiene and food safety standards, keeping the bakery organised, clean and customer-focused
- Use customer feedback to sharpen products and service, always seeking gains in customer satisfaction, efficiency and product quality
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated professional baking experience in a supermarket, retail bakery, commercial bakery or similar food production environment
- Solid practical knowledge of bakery production and preparation, with a proven record of consistently producing quality bakery products
- Previous management or supervisory experience is advantageous
- Experienced Bakers and Senior Bakers with leadership potential, and current Bakery Managers looking for a new challenge, are encouraged to apply
- Real enthusiasm for product development and bakery innovation
- The ability to motivate, coach, lead and develop a team, with a hands-on approach to leadership and daily bakery operations
- Strong planning and organisational skills, plus a good grasp of wastage, stock control, labour utilisation and department performance
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a wider management team
- A strong customer-service focus, a commitment to quality and a commitment to workplace safety, hygiene and food safety
- Effective in a busy retail setting and willing to relocate to Taranaki, New Zealand
