Boat Builder/Engineer/Alloy Fabricator

A specialist manufacturer in Gore, New Zealand, wants a skilled Welder and Fabricator with proven aluminium welding and marine fabrication experience to help build and finish high-performance aluminium boats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work from engineering and fabrication drawings, interpreting them accurately
  • Weld aluminium using MIG processes, along with other metals
  • Take on boat-building, fabrication, fitting and assembly work
  • Measure, cut, prepare and position materials ready for fabrication
  • Run saws, shears, cranes, benders and other fabrication machinery, and use engineering hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, squares and levels
  • Inspect fabricated and welded parts for accuracy and quality, keeping welding and workmanship consistently professional
  • Observe workplace health and safety procedures at all times
  • Keep tools, equipment and work areas tidy and organised
  • Work with supervisors and teammates to meet production requirements and help improve workshop processes, productivity and project outcomes
  • Fill in time sheets, material requests and other required job paperwork
  • Flag production, equipment or material issues to the right supervisor

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven professional background in welding, fabrication or boat building, including experience across different metals and welding processes
  • Strong hands-on aluminium welding experience and a demonstrated ability to perform MIG welding to a high standard
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately
  • Practical knowledge of fabrication machinery and workshop equipment, plus experience with engineering hand and power tools
  • Understanding of safe workshop practice and occupational health and safety requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, producing consistent, high-quality workmanship
  • Good problem-solving and practical fabrication skills, working well both independently and within a team
  • Reliable, safety-conscious and committed to meeting production standards
  • Willingness to provide evidence supporting relevant skills and employment experience, and to work in Southland, New Zealand
