Butchery Assistant Manager

This full-time permanent role is designed for an accomplished Butcher who is ready to leave routine production behind and take on senior responsibility. Your practical background will need to be verifiable, because skill, consistency and trustworthiness are what the employer values most.
Based in Birkenhead, Auckland, you will act as second in charge to the Butchery Manager, helping the department run smoothly. Expect to uphold product quality, back the team, look after customers and keep daily operations at the expected standard.
For butchers currently working in Gulf supermarkets or meat processing, this is a considered step towards recognised experience and wider leadership in New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities
- Help the butchery department operate efficiently from day to day, resolving operational issues with the Butchery Manager to keep productivity on track
- Apply proven butchery methods to cutting, preparing, breaking down and packing product
- Keep product quality and presentation accurate and consistent
- Guide and train colleagues in practical skills, and assist with supervising staff and allocating daily tasks
- Support stock rotation, ordering and the control of wastage
- Uphold strict food safety, hygiene and workplace safety standards while keeping the department clean and well organised
- Develop good relationships with customers by providing professional service
Requirements & Eligibility
- Substantial professional background as a Butcher, with proven hands-on knowledge of meat preparation and the various cuts of meat
- Assured knife handling and carcass breakdown experience
- Prior experience being responsible for other staff is advantageous
- Able to supply evidence that supports the work experience you claim
- A professional, dependable and accountable work ethic
- Good communication and people skills, working well within a team and keeping accuracy and quality high under pressure
- Sound knowledge of food safety and workplace safety requirements
- Available for a Tuesday to Saturday roster and able to meet the requirements of the relevant sponsorship pathway
