Climbing Arborist

Two openings for Climbing Arborists are available with a long-standing tree services company based in Whakatane, covering the Eastern Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand. Hiring focuses on placing the right people in the right roles, so credentials, practical background and technical skill each feature strongly in selection.

Expect variety: commercial, rural and residential clients, with work running from regular maintenance and crown reductions to technical takedowns and bigger projects. The crew prides itself on craftsmanship, careful planning and keeping mature trees and vegetation standing whenever it is practical.

For arborists and landscape professionals in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Muscat, it is a considered next move.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver skilled climbing work for business, farm and household clients
  • Handle pruning, crown reductions and technical takedowns, up to sizeable commercial contracts
  • Pick the right climbing, rigging and sectional dismantling approach for every tree and location
  • Keep work at height and on the ground under safe control
  • Use specialist tree care plant and gear as needed
  • Review each site before starting, stick to the agreed work and safety plan, and take great care near structures, services, retained plants and other property
  • Put tree retention and protection of surrounding vegetation first wherever reasonably possible
  • Look after ropes, harnesses, tools, machines and PPE so they stay in professional condition
  • Partner with groundies and other climbers to get each job done efficiently
  • Join paid training and continuing skill development, and attend urgent or callout jobs when required
  • Bring steady safety, dependability and quality to every day's work

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A Level 3 or Level 4 Arboriculture qualification, or experience that demonstrably matches it
  • Proven time working as a climbing arborist, including capable aerial climbing and tree work
  • Practical rigging and technical removal skills, plus the capacity to run climbing jobs on your own where suitable
  • Sound knowledge of safe arboricultural methods
  • Class 1 driver's licence essential; a Class 2 or heavy transport licence is advantageous
  • The physical fitness for hard outdoor tree work
  • Honesty, reliability and professionalism, together with good communication and team skills
  • Readiness to complete further arboricultural training where required
  • Overseas applicants holding verifiable, relevant qualifications and experience are welcome, with sponsorship available to suitable candidates from abroad
  • Must satisfy the applicable New Zealand work visa and employer requirements
