CNC Machine Operator / Machinist
Trade · Christchurch Central, Canterbury, New Zealand · Full-Time · $35/hr
Experienced CNC Machinists considering their next move, including those currently working in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Jeddah, will find a technically demanding New Zealand engineering environment here. Capability is judged on what you can set up, produce, measure and solve, not on the title printed on your CV.
Expect a broad mix: CNC milling, turning and multi-axis machining on precision components, complex industrial parts, one-off jobs, small production runs and repair or refurbishment work. Each job calls for sound assessment, informed technical decisions and accurate results with minimal supervision.
Your machining background will be checked against credible evidence of skills and employment history. Employer sponsorship is available for candidates who meet the required criteria.

- Set up CNC equipment for precision work and prove and refine programs ahead of production
- Operate milling, turning and multi-axis CNC machines
- Produce parts to the specified measurements and tolerances
- Carry out in-process measurement and quality checks
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling and setup problems
- Bring independent technical judgement to unfamiliar or demanding jobs

- Machine parts for repair, refurbishment and modification
- Keep accuracy and workmanship consistent, watching each process and adjusting where required
- Observe workplace safety, quality and operational procedures
- Finish allocated work efficiently within the required timeframes
- Suggest practical improvements to machining methods and work closely with experienced engineering and workshop teams
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven professional background as a CNC Machinist, including setup and operation you can demonstrate hands-on
- Practical exposure to CNC milling, turning and/or multi-axis machining, and confidence to set and prove jobs without assistance
- Solid grounding in precision engineering or similar machining, covering one-off, small-batch or high-mix production
- Reads engineering drawings and specifications with confidence
- Shows clear knowledge of workholding, tooling and cutting parameters, and understands machining tolerances and dimensional accuracy thoroughly
- A proven troubleshooter who solves problems practically and makes sound technical calls alone
- Meticulous about detail and quality, with a reliable, safety-first approach at the machine
- Works well alone and adds positively to the wider team
- Advantageous: experience on complex or larger industrial components
- Advantageous: a relevant machining trade qualification
- Your employment history and professional experience must be capable of verification
- Candidates must meet applicable New Zealand employment and sponsorship requirements; employer sponsorship is on offer for suitably qualified people whose CNC expertise has been verified
