CNC Machine Operator / Machinist

Working on your own initiative, you will set up, prove and run CNC milling machines to make and repair precision-engineered parts. Most work is one-off or small-batch, carried out on advanced CNC machining centres, and the output ranges from fine precision parts to large industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently get CNC milling machines set up, proven and running, including machine adjustments and verification of each program before cutting
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications, then machine precision components to the stated tolerances
  • Choose suitable tooling, fixtures and workholding for every job
  • Inspect parts while machining is in progress to confirm accuracy and quality
  • Produce one-off and small-batch work for a wide variety of engineering projects
  • Diagnose and fix machining problems so productivity stays high
  • Uphold strong standards of precision, workmanship and safety, keeping machines and the work area tidy and well organised
  • Collaborate with the production team on project deadlines and contribute ideas for continuous improvement and more efficient manufacturing

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven background as a CNC Machinist, with strong hands-on CNC milling experience and the ability to set up, prove and operate CNC milling machines without supervision
  • Experience running multi-axis CNC machining centres within a precision engineering environment
  • Strong skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, backed by sound knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools and tolerances
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving ability, a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to quality output
  • Able to work efficiently in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing setting, bringing a positive attitude, effective teamwork and a commitment to workplace health and safety practices
  • A relevant trade qualification or equivalent industry experience is highly regarded
