Duty Manager

Darwin's licensed hospitality scene is the setting for this senior shift role. A high-traffic venue in the Northern Territory needs a seasoned Duty Manager to run the floor whenever you are rostered on.
You become the most senior person on site for the shift, steering operations and guiding frontline staff in bars and dining, the gaming room and events. The job blends people leadership, guest care, regulatory compliance, financial controls and on-the-spot operational judgement, so you will deal with guest requests and operational problems as they come up and keep every shift safe, smooth and professional.

Key Responsibilities
- Run the whole venue for the duration of your shift, from unlocking and opening routines to the close
- Guide, supervise and back up staff working in bars and dining, the gaming room and events, assigning tasks so every area stays covered
- Contribute to staff rostering, coaching, development and performance conversations
- Keep presentation of the venue and the standard of guest service consistently high
- Make sure the venue meets its obligations on liquor, gaming, responsible gambling, workplace safety and food safety
- Look after keys, restricted zones and security routines, and react sensibly when security issues or incidents occur
- Supervise floats, tills, safe balances, gaming transactions and general cash handling, then reconcile the shift and hand over accurate figures
- Deal with guest complaints and settle operational or behavioural problems
- Assist with events, entertainment and promotions while keeping an eye on stock, equipment, cleaning and repairs
- Write accurate reports covering each shift, any incidents and day-to-day operations
- Put workplace policies into practice, find ways to improve how the venue performs and keep the workplace safe, positive and professional
Requirements & Eligibility
- Either an AQF Diploma-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field together with at least one year of full-time-equivalent experience in a related role, or at least three years of comparable full-time-equivalent experience managing in hospitality, hotels or licensed clubs
- A track record of leading and supervising staff in hospitality
- Prior work in licensed premises and a working knowledge of how gaming and licensed hospitality operate
- Solid experience with cash management and reconciliations
- Good understanding of security and operational controls in a venue
- Strong skills in leading people and managing a team
- Excellent guest-service skills and the ability to resolve conflict
- Clear written communication, including report writing
- Current NT Responsible Service of Alcohol certification
- Current Responsible Service of Gambling training, or a willingness to undertake the required training
- NT Gaming Machine Manager licence preferred; otherwise, willingness and eligibility to obtain that licence
- Free to work evenings, weekends and public holidays, and able to meet the relevant licensing, probity and employment requirements
