Leichhardt, Sydney, is home to a specialist role for an Electrician or Junior Electrician ready to step beyond everyday electrical jobs into standby power, generator controls and critical building systems.
On commercial sites, your days will involve generator testing, electrical upgrades, fault-finding and control systems, with engineering support on hand and plenty of room to stretch your technical skills. What counts most is your hands-on background, trade knowledge and electrical experience you can genuinely demonstrate. If you like solving problems, working with equipment and learning how complex power systems function, this builds specialist experience on important commercial infrastructure, a considered next move whether you are in Dubai, Doha or elsewhere.
Key Responsibilities
- Look after the electrical components of standby generators, and carry out the electrical work that generator upgrades and modifications require
- Run generator and emergency power tests while buildings are shut down, covering AFSS-related generator testing
- Trace faults in generator controllers, PLCs and control circuits, and troubleshoot and test Automatic Transfer Switches and the switchgear connected to them
- Read schematics and single-line diagrams to carry out and test control-system wiring
- Assist on generator commissioning, system upgrades, and telemetry and control-system applications
- Get to the bottom of technical issues and implement workable solutions
- Work on your own while staying in touch with the broader team, and collaborate with engineers on specialist generator projects
- Join scheduled night and weekend works
- Pick up extra shutdown and overtime opportunities as they arise
Requirements & Eligibility
- Current NSW Electrical Licence is essential
- Proven hands-on experience in the electrical trade, backed by a verifiable work history that demonstrates genuine electrical skills
- Able to read and interpret electrical schematics as well as single-line diagrams
- A practical, hands-on style, confidence with trade and electrical tools, and the ability to work through problems to practical solutions
- Comfortable on your own when required, and an effective contributor within a small team
- Generator controller experience with Deep Sea, Cummins, CAT or Woodward is advantageous
- Interest in PLCs, control wiring, telemetry and standby power systems
- Must be based in Sydney or willing to relocate, and available for occasional night and weekend work
- Full NSW Driver Licence required, plus the ability to drive a manual vehicle
