Experienced Agricultural Diesel Mechanic

When farm machinery fails at planting or harvest, experience is what gets it running again. A well-established agricultural machinery operation in the Esperance and Goldfields region of Western Australia is offering a permanent full-time position to a skilled Agricultural Diesel Mechanic.
You would work hands-on with modern agricultural equipment across workshop and field servicing, where reliability and technical expertise directly support farming operations. The employer wants experienced diesel mechanics whose trade qualifications, practical skills and employment background can be clearly verified. Key Responsibilities
- Keep tractors, harvesters, headers, sprayers, seeders and other farm machines in working order through servicing, maintenance and repairs on agricultural diesel plant
- Track down mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults using modern diagnostic gear and electronic scan tools, then put hydraulic and electrical systems right
- Fault-find and fix diesel engines, transmissions and drivelines
- Inspect machines and carry out preventative work so emerging problems are caught early, before they lead to major downtime, and reliability stays high
- Head out to breakdowns for in-field repairs when farming is at its busiest, and get workshop jobs done efficiently, fabricating, modifying or adapting parts where needed
- Help keep the fleet ready for planting and harvest, joining the seasonal on-call roster where necessary
- Keep service and maintenance records accurate, work to established safety, environmental and quality procedures, and keep colleagues, customers and other stakeholders well informed
Requirements & Eligibility
- A recognised trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Mobile Plant Technology or an equivalent discipline
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical work since qualifying in your trade
- It is essential that you can show agricultural machinery experience, including hands-on time on tractors, combines, headers, sprayers or related farm equipment
- Machinery experience in broadacre cropping, livestock or mixed farming is highly regarded
- Strong diagnostic, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills, and the independence to identify faults and finish repairs yourself
- Equally comfortable in the workshop and in outdoor rural environments
- Fluent English communication skills are essential; a current driver's licence is needed, with HR licence advantageous
- A strong work ethic, dependability and a professional attitude, plus evidence you can provide of qualifications and relevant employment experience
- Candidates must be able to satisfy applicable Australian employment and visa requirements; 482 visa sponsorship available for eligible overseas candidates
