Field Service Technician - Agriculture

You will look after modern equipment used by rural contractors and farmers, from routine servicing through to complex breakdowns, combining problem-solving with customer contact and building a name as a trusted machinery specialist. Key Responsibilities
- Inspect agricultural machinery and pinpoint electronic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical faults, using specialist electronic and manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment
- Service, maintain and repair tractors, harvesting equipment and other specialised farm machinery, using safe, efficient methods and quality workmanship
- Attend breakdowns at customer sites, work through technical problems methodically and deliver effective repairs in the field
- Test machinery after each repair to confirm the fault is properly fixed
- Keep technical documentation, job reports and service records accurate
- Explain findings and recommendations clearly to customers, building good relationships with contractors, farmers and other machinery users
- Handle field assignments professionally with minimal supervision, teaming up with other technicians and support staff on complex issues
- Keep up ongoing training on modern agricultural machinery systems and join the on-call and breakdown roster when required
Requirements & Eligibility
- A relevant qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Automotive Engineering or Heavy Machinery, at NZQF Level 4 or higher or an equivalent recognised overseas qualification
- Proven hands-on experience with heavy machinery or agricultural tractors, and a demonstrable ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems
- Strong fault-finding across electronic, electrical and hydraulic systems, with experience using electronic diagnostic equipment
- An understanding of electronically controlled systems and modern agricultural machinery
- Previous field service experience is highly desirable; agricultural machinery dealership experience will be advantageous
- Experience with forage harvesters is an advantage but not mandatory
- Strong communication and customer service, and the ability to work independently in customer-facing field settings
- A professional attitude, careful attention to workmanship and detail, and a dependable approach to service standards, documentation and safety
- Willing to take on ongoing technical training and able to join an on-call service roster
- Overseas applicants must be able to provide evidence of relevant practical experience and qualifications; sponsorship is available for eligible overseas applicants
