The employer wants an experienced tradesperson with proven workshop capability across welding, fitting, fabrication and assembly. You should grasp each brief quickly, stay precise, make sound calls on the floor and deliver results to a professional engineering standard. One project may come with detailed plans; the next may depend entirely on your fabrication judgement.

Key Responsibilities
- Build and mount bespoke truck decks and transport bodies, plus crane fit-outs and the fabrication that goes with them
- Use MIG and TIG processes to weld aluminium, stainless and mild steel
- Fabricate, fit up and put together structures and components
- Work from technical specifications and engineering plans, marking out, measuring, cutting and preparing material with precision
- Deliver welds and fabricated work that satisfy the quality standards set for each job
- Assess what a repair or fabrication task calls for and settle on a practical fix
- Handle general engineering, truck-body and transport repairs, as well as rush jobs with tight turnarounds
- Check completed items for finish, structural soundness and dimensional accuracy
- Comply with relevant engineering and certification rules, working alongside engineers whenever sign-off, certification or inspection is involved
- Work safely and help maintain a professional workshop
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 5 years of professional fitting, welding or fabrication experience in a relevant setting, including real hands-on workshop and fabrication work
- Capable MIG and TIG welder on aluminium/alloy, stainless and mild steel
- Confident at fitting up and putting together fabricated structures
- Comfortable reading technical drawings and working to them
- Able to diagnose and fix practical fabrication problems independently
- Precise about tolerances, measurements and the quality of the finish, and dependable on safety, accuracy and workmanship
- Background in heavy fabrication, transport or truck work is an advantage
- Holding welding tickets or industry certifications is advantageous but not mandatory; you should also be open to gaining further welding certifications where required
- Able to produce verifiable proof of your trade experience and work history
- Overseas applicants who are suitable may be considered for employer-sponsored employment
- Candidates must satisfy applicable New Zealand visa and employment requirements
