HVAC Service Technician

For HVAC specialists who have already proven themselves on large commercial sites, whether in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh, this Waikato vacancy is a considered next move to New Zealand. The hiring company, a long-standing Waikato provider of HVAC and refrigeration services, needs a seasoned HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician who can own demanding maintenance and servicing jobs from diagnosis to sign-off.
What matters is verifiable depth in chillers, central plant, refrigeration and commercial air conditioning. You should be quick to read a fault, apply sound technical judgement and leave each client with a dependable fix.

Key Responsibilities
- Trace faults back to their source, whether a compressor, fan motor or refrigerant circuit, and choose the most suitable repair
- Keep commercial refrigeration and air-con plant in good order through inspections, servicing and repairs
- Deliver preventative and scheduled maintenance programmes across the full range of HVAC plant
- Troubleshoot and maintain the chilled water systems in central plant rooms
- Look after air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, VRF/VRV units, and process cooling equipment running on DX or chilled water
- Take new HVAC and refrigeration installations through commissioning to start-up, interpreting construction drawings, technical paperwork and equipment specs
- Carry out ACR copper pipe work and welding as jobs require, then pressure test and evacuate each system
- Complete authorised electrical isolation, disconnection and reconnection work
- Adjust and calibrate temperature controls, and interface with HVAC control panels and the Building Management System
- Deliver tidy, professional workmanship at each client location and keep customer relationships positive through courteous dealings
- Comply with each site's safety requirements, PPE rules and Health & Safety standards, and join toolbox meetings, site inductions and safety reporting
- Be part of the after-hours callout roster as required
Requirements & Eligibility
- National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
- Post-qualification experience of at least 5 years covering chillers and central plant systems
- Applicants lacking the specified qualification can be considered where they hold 8+ years' relevant experience
- Proven commercial refrigeration and HVAC background, including hands-on familiarity with VRF/VRV, DX, chilled water systems and chillers
- Sharp diagnostic, fault-finding and repair skills, together with installation, commissioning and start-up experience on HVAC and refrigeration plant
- Comfortable interpreting technical drawings and equipment specifications
- Self-directed, taking full ownership of allocated jobs, with workmanship that is consistently professional
- A clear communicator with a strong customer service focus
- Prepared to cover on-call duties on a roster basis
- A firm commitment to safe work practices and professional behaviour on site
