Maintenance & Reliability Lead
Trade · Perth WA, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr
Plant reliability is the core of this brief. An expanding Western Australian manufacturer is hiring an experienced Industrial Maintenance & Reliability Manager to bring structure and a proactive mindset to how its equipment is looked after. The ideal person is technically strong and ready to own a wider scope: equipment performance, maintenance planning, automation and reliability improvement.
Rather than stepping into a finished system, you will build one. Expect a mix of hands-on fault-finding, planning, asset management, contractor coordination and ongoing improvement, done in partnership with production staff, equipment makers and specialist technicians to boost availability, reduce repeat breakdowns and create practices built for long-term operational growth.
Overseas applicants are encouraged, including engineers in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh weighing their next move.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the facility-wide maintenance and reliability strategy, answering for uptime, plant reliability and how well maintenance performs
- Introduce structured predictive and preventative programs, scheduling work around equipment criticality and production demands
- Attend breakdowns and technical faults, tracing problems through hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and instrumentation systems
- Do hands-on electrical and mechanical work, staying inside your authorised scope and the qualifications you hold
- Fault-find on motors, sensors, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, variable-speed drives and automated controls
- Watch for repeat failures, lead root-cause analysis and embed corrective actions and reliability gains that last
- Keep work orders, asset registers, equipment histories and maintenance records accurate, while bedding in and improving CMMS processes such as MEX and other relevant equipment maintenance systems
- Define maintenance standards, service intervals and inspection routines, documenting them in usable procedures, checklists and technical records
- Strengthen identification, availability and inventory control of critical spares
- Bring together manufacturers, suppliers, specialist contractors and technical service providers as work requires
- Assist with equipment installs, upgrades, modifications, commissioning and handover
- Coach production operators on equipment care and early fault detection, contributing to better uptime, quicker maintenance response, safer plant and more efficient operations
- Enforce isolation, permit-to-work, lockout/tagout and wider safety procedures on all maintenance, and ensure only suitably qualified people carry out licensed or specialist tasks
Requirements & Eligibility
- Holds a recognised trade qualification in mechatronics, industrial electrical, electromechanical engineering, fitting and turning, mechanical fitting or a related technical discipline
- Strong industrial maintenance background gained in production, processing or manufacturing environments, and a demonstrated, hands-on record of diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment

- Strong fault-finding and mechanical maintenance capability
- Understands corrective, predictive and preventative maintenance practice, and has reduced equipment downtime and improved plant reliability before
- Has used a CMMS or computerised maintenance management system; a background with MEX, Buhler or a comparable maintenance system will be highly regarded
- Can create maintenance documentation, processes and systems from the ground up
- Strong root-cause problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Can juggle competing maintenance priorities while managing manufacturers, suppliers and contractors, backed by strong organisational and communication skills
- Experience from FMCG, food, pet food, animal feed, milling, grain or similar manufacturing industries will be advantageous
- Familiarity with batching, conveying, extrusion, mixing, drying, cooling, coating or automated packing equipment will be advantageous
- Reliability engineering, condition monitoring, equipment upgrades or commissioning experience will be highly regarded
- Understanding HACCP, GMP or controlled manufacturing environments will be advantageous
- Works safely, staying within relevant licences, qualifications and authorised scope
- Holds Australian work rights or is eligible for employer-sponsored employment, and can satisfy Australian visa, licensing, qualification recognition and skills-assessment requirements
