Mining Engineer

An established underground operation in Queensland is offering this permanent role to a Senior Mining Engineer for its short-term planning function. You will take existing mine strategies and shape them into clear, achievable plans that keep production and development safe and on track.
The position calls for someone who knows the realities underground and can confidently apply engineering judgement to mine design, drill and blast, production planning and day-to-day operational challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Lead short-term underground mine planning, converting broader strategies into practical operational plans
- Produce mine designs for development, production and underground infrastructure, using mine planning software to keep them accurate and practical
- Prepare and optimise drill and blast designs, and review stope designs alongside short-term production requirements
- Use engineering expertise to sharpen mine sequencing and operational outcomes
- Partner with operational teams so plans stay realistic and achievable, while flagging planning risks, constraints and room for improvement
- Give technical direction to the mining engineering team and mentor engineers, graduates and cadets
- Coordinate planning needs across development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill, supporting production readiness and effective execution
- Drive continuous improvement in mine planning and design practice
Requirements & Eligibility
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 6–8 years of experience in mining engineering, including strong hard rock underground mining experience that is genuine and verifiable
- Proven short-term mine planning experience and demonstrated capability in operational mine design
- Strong drill and blast design experience, plus solid stope design and mine sequencing knowledge
- Good understanding of underground mining methods and production processes
- A track record of technical leadership or mentoring junior engineers
- Proficient in Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or similar software
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with technical and operational teams
- Visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates
