Operations Manager

Trade · Christchurch Central, Canterbury, New Zealand · Full-Time · $25/hr

A job title alone does not make a great technical leader. What sets one apart is the standards they hold, the teams they build and how far their decisions can be trusted. If you are leading technical crews in Abu Dhabi, Doha or Riyadh and feel ready for that next step, this Christchurch-based senior operations role is worth considering.

You will turn technical capability into dependable field delivery across several New Zealand sites: coordinating people and resources, managing operational performance, safeguarding compliance and stepping in yourself when technical oversight is called for.

Your hands-on background counts, and so do your judgement, commercial sense and ability to keep multiple locations consistent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct daily technical operations at multiple sites, giving clear leadership to a team spread across different regions
  • Schedule people and resources around planned compliance and inspection programmes
  • Drive consistent technical quality, safety and service, and champion a strong health and safety culture in the field
  • Track utilisation, job margins and work in progress
  • Judge capability and match suitably experienced inspectors to each assignment, keeping tight control of authorised work scopes and accreditation requirements
  • Own complex or escalated client issues
  • Supervise technical work on site when extra expertise or capacity is needed
  • Partner with technical services, compliance and finance teams, and identify the capability and resources needed for the future
  • Back continuous improvement of operational processes and help the business grow sustainably without compromising technical standards

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven background managing or leading a technical or field-based team, built on a strong hands-on technical or trade foundation
  • Relevant trade, technical or tertiary qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritise work under pressure, with strong decision-making, communication and problem-solving
  • Commercial grasp of utilisation, job costing, margins and work in progress
  • Able to lead seasoned professionals while holding clear standards, with a sound understanding of technical scope, authorisation and compliance
  • Experience operating under ISO/IEC 17020 or ISO/IEC 17025 is advantageous, and a background in electricity distribution or a related technical industry is also advantageous
  • Track record handling client relationships and escalated issues
  • Full driver's licence and willingness to travel between sites when required
  • International candidates with relevant and verifiable technical experience are encouraged to apply
  • Must meet applicable New Zealand employment and visa requirements
