Planner/ Architectural Draftsperson
Trade · Rockdale, Sydney NSW, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr
Rockdale, Sydney is the base for this opening with an expanding multidisciplinary consultancy. The team wants a Planning / Architectural Draftsperson who offers dependable technical ability, meticulous accuracy and hands-on project experience.
Your work will straddle drafting and planning. A key part involves recording existing homes, among them properties that must be reinstated or redesigned after damage from fire, trees or vehicles, so reading what is on site precisely and connecting drawings to the broader planning picture both matter. You will also handle planning paperwork, DA preparation, liaison with consultants and portal lodgements.
Real responsibility comes from the start, and there is scope to progress into a senior or lead role as your proven capability, and the business, grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Survey and measure sites, then record existing residential and medium-density buildings precisely in detailed architectural drawings
- Draft preliminary plans and help pinpoint structural elements in the architectural set
- Prepare Statements of Environmental Effects and related planning reports, reviewing the relevant LEPs, DCPs and any other development controls that apply
- Compile Development Application packages, lodge them via the planning portal and follow each DA as it moves forward
- Act as the link between designers and specialist consultants across heritage, bushfire, stormwater, structural, civil, surveying and arboricultural disciplines
- Create polished 2D AutoCAD drawings using model and paper space, keeping to the established drafting standards on every project
- Review drawing sets and documents for completeness, accuracy and consistency, fixing technical or documentation problems quickly
- Keep clients, consultants and colleagues clear on project requirements while managing your own workload to agreed deadlines
- Suggest practical improvements and support the consultancy as it expands

- Demonstrated background in architectural drafting, planning or a related professional field, through relevant qualifications and/or substantial hands-on industry experience

- Understanding of the architectural documentation used on residential and medium-density projects
- A track record preparing or supporting Development Applications, knowledge of NSW LEPs, DCPs and planning requirements, and experience producing planning documents such as Statements of Environmental Effects
- Precise and highly detail-focused, with strong analytical and technical problem-solving ability
- Effective at coordinating several consultants at once, supported by strong time-management and organisational skills
- Able to own your assigned work and operate with limited supervision
- Professional English communication, written and verbal, and the ability to engage well with clients and project stakeholders
