Product Engineer

A leading global technology company in Auckland is appointing a Product Engineer – New Product Introduction (NPI) to take innovative electronic products from first concept all the way to full-scale production.

You will partner with engineering, quality, supply chain and manufacturing colleagues to build efficient manufacturing processes, raise product quality and sustain production excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the journey of each new product from prototype to volume output, keeping engineering, quality, purchasing and production colleagues aligned along the way
  • Design, prove and refine how electronic and mechanical products are built
  • Look after test systems, fixtures and line equipment, and give hands-on technical help and sustaining engineering while production runs
  • Get to the root of build, test and quality problems through structured analysis, then put corrective and preventive measures in place to strengthen reliability
  • Mine production data for gains in efficiency, quality and cost, backing lean and continuous improvement projects
  • Write and keep current the engineering documents, build procedures, test plans and change records
  • Work hand in hand with suppliers and manufacturing partners so production is ready and keeps improving
  • Travel overseas from time to time as required

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a comparable engineering field
  • Minimum 5 years spent in electronics and mechanical manufacturing settings
  • A strong grasp of new product introduction (NPI) and of making manufacturing ready for launch
  • A track record building, supporting or fault-finding test fixtures and production equipment, and the analytical ability to drive productivity and quality gains
  • Knowledge spanning electronics manufacturing, assembly, quality systems and inventory management
  • PCB assembly manufacturing and electronic production testing experience is highly desirable; exposure to engineering documentation or product lifecycle management systems is advantageous
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
  • Strong communication, including professional English, and a talent for collaborating across functions
  • Willingness to take occasional international trips
