Quality Assurance Manager

Trade · Newcastle, Newcastle, Maitland & Hunter NSW, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

Compliance, food safety and quality operations at a long-standing Australian food processor in New South Wales are about to gain a new leader. The business is recruiting a Quality Assurance Manager who will make sure internal standards, customer expectations, regulatory obligations and food safety systems hold steady every day.

Success here rests on genuine technical depth, good judgement and a willingness to take ownership of quality results. Selection looks at practical expertise, qualifications and professional background, which opens the door for well-qualified people based in Australia or abroad to advance within the country's food industry.

Mentoring, structured onboarding and career development are on offer, giving a seasoned QA professional a clear route into broader operational responsibility. For quality leaders in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh, it is a considered next move.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead quality assurance and food safety across the whole site, making sure the food safety and quality management systems work as they should
  • Keep the site compliant with applicable Australian regulatory and food safety requirements, reviewing and improving Approved Arrangements and the compliance processes linked to them
  • Coordinate audit programs, whether regulatory, customer or internal, so operations are ready for an audit at any point
  • Investigate process failures, non-conformances and quality incidents, then see corrective and preventive actions through until they are properly closed
  • Organise mock recalls, verification programs and traceability exercises
  • Ensure compliance information, records and quality documentation remain accurate
  • Measure production processes against the site's food safety and quality standards, and run pre-operational, hygiene and process verification checks
  • Give the QA team daily leadership and technical direction, developing and coaching staff to raise quality performance site-wide
  • Build a positive food safety culture and a sense of accountability among all employees
  • Spot improvements to operational controls, processes and quality systems, and work hand in hand with management and production to settle compliance and quality issues
  • Support relevant industry standards and animal welfare requirements

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Qualified in Food Technology, Food Science, Quality Management, Agricultural Science or a comparable discipline; international qualifications and professional experience that are relevant will be considered
  • A professional track record in food manufacturing, compliance, food safety or quality assurance
  • Working knowledge of food safety management systems and HACCP principles
  • Experience helping with or leading audits of a regulatory, customer or quality nature, plus managing preventive and corrective actions
  • Demonstrated skill in tracing why non-conformances occur and implementing solutions that work
  • A thorough grasp of traceability, verification and quality documentation procedures
  • Capable of keeping standards high within a regulated production setting
  • Prior experience developing, coordinating or supervising quality personnel
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, confident stakeholder management and communication, and the capacity to work together with senior management and production teams
  • Experience in export or food processing industries is advantageous, while a background in meat processing, DAFF compliance or Approved Arrangements is highly regarded
  • A commitment to compliance, food safety and Australian workplace standards
  • Visa sponsorship can be provided to a suitable overseas applicant
