Registered Midwife

Midwives in Tasmania have the chance to join a private maternity service where they sit at the heart of the care team. Experienced, dedicated Registered Midwives will find their skills, qualifications and clinical background properly recognised in a supportive setting.

Working with seasoned healthcare professionals, you will guide women and families through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Structured clinical support, mentorship and professional development help you deepen your expertise in maternity and newborn care. Please note that visa sponsorship is considered for eligible onshore applicants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, respectful, evidence-based midwifery care across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages
  • Support women through labour and birth in line with their individual preferences and care plans
  • Assess and monitor the health of mothers and newborns, recognising clinical concerns and escalating them appropriately when required
  • Educate and emotionally support women and their families, help with newborn care, and encourage breastfeeding and early parenting
  • Keep patient records and clinical documentation accurate
  • Collaborate with obstetric, neonatal, nursing and allied health colleagues
  • Engage in clinical education, ongoing professional development and quality improvement, helping sustain a positive maternity environment
  • Guide and support student and graduate midwives where appropriate

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA, plus a recognised Midwifery qualification
  • Demonstrated experience delivering maternity care
  • Strong commitment to evidence-based, woman-centred practice and to maintaining your clinical competencies and professional knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in birth suite, antenatal, postnatal or special care nursery is highly regarded
  • Able to work permanent full-time, part-time or casual hours
  • Eligible onshore applicants who need visa sponsorship will be considered
  • Able to meet Australian professional registration and employment requirements
