Truck driver

Trade · Drury, Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · $34/hr

Every reliable transport business is built on drivers it can trust with its trucks, its loads and its customers. A well-established distribution operation in Drury, south of central Auckland, wants to add dependable Class 2 and Class 5 drivers who can prove their licence, show real driving ability and bring a good attitude.

Your licence and suitability decide your route: either local runs around the Auckland region, or line-haul work moving heavy combination units between company depots, clients and distribution centres. The job goes beyond the cab, with freight handling, truck preparation and general support for the transport team.

For drivers in Dubai, Dammam or Doha, it is a considered next move to New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate your Class 2 rig or Class 5 unit with care and good judgement, including truck-and-trailer line-haul when the roster calls for it
  • Run planned local drops across Auckland, keeping to the timetable for every pick-up and drop-off
  • Shift goods between company locations, clients and distribution hubs
  • Put freight on and take it off the truck, restraining every load properly, and help set up vehicles and cargo before each shift
  • Do pre-trip and routine safety inspections, and tell the team straight away about any truck, load or operational concern
  • Fill in all delivery and transport records the job requires
  • Stick to every company rule on health, safety and operations
  • Be courteous and clear with clients and co-workers, acting as a good ambassador for the company while driving
  • Manage your day independently as one part of the broader transport crew
  • Help out with other hands-on transport tasks when required
  • Stay flexible as volumes, routes and shift patterns change

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A current clean New Zealand Class 2 or Class 5 driver's licence, and the skill to handle the matching heavy vehicle safely
  • Class 5 applicants must be able to drive heavy combination units, and Class 2 applicants must be able to manage local delivery runs
  • A demonstrated record of driving heavy vehicles without compromising safety
  • Earlier heavy vehicle work is preferred but not essential where you can show the required capability
  • A Forklift licence is an advantage, though not mandatory
  • Firm dedication to road safety and a safe workplace
  • Dependable attendance, solid work habits, an upbeat outlook and eagerness to learn
  • Clear, friendly communication, working comfortably alone or with the team
  • Readiness to do the physical side of transport work
  • Openness to changing shifts, night work included, and to a Monday to Saturday roster
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Able to meet the relevant New Zealand employment and visa requirements
