A well-run scrap metal recycling yard is building its crew. The operator takes charge of a 30-tonne tracked excavator equipped with a shear, a grapple and a magnet, guiding material from large steel sections to loaded export containers. The work is full-time, with a 30-hour base and consistent weeks of up to 50.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cut down vehicle shells, machinery and structural steel with the shear
  • Sort metals using the grapple and keep balers and shredders fed
  • Stockpile ferrous material by magnet and keep lanes in order
  • Carry out pre-start checks daily and oversee hydraulic lines through attachment changes
  • Load bulk export containers

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Prior work on 30-tonne-plus excavators in a scrap metal yard, heavy demolition or quarry environment, with direct and confident hydraulic shear, grapple and magnet use (essential)
  • Valid NZ Class 1 licence plus a WTR endorsement (highly preferred)
  • Strong spatial judgement around active trucks, plant and ground staff
  • Ability to pass the pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
