Whether you work in Dubai, Doha or Riyadh today, a permanent flooring role in Christchurch could be a considered next move. A respected flooring firm in the city is growing its team and invites seasoned floor layers, leaders ready to take charge of a job, and newcomers eager to master the craft, apprentices included. Several appointments are possible.
Expect homes and light commercial premises across the city and its outskirts. The week starts at 37.5 hours and commonly runs to 40 or 42, chiefly on weekdays, with an occasional longer day. Senior people see a project through from the moment they reach site until it is done, guiding a colleague or small crew, while newer starters develop under close guidance.
AEWV applicants are welcome, including those who require employer sponsorship support to apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa. Employment is subject to obtaining the appropriate New Zealand work rights.

Key Responsibilities
- Study each brief in advance and confirm stock, quantities and specification.
- Take exact measurements, plan the layout and cut and fit with care.
- Lay carpet over underlay, finished with trims and accessories, and move on to sheet vinyl and vinyl plank once trained and competent.
- Lift the old covering and see it disposed of.
- Ready each surface through smoothing, grinding and levelling where the site calls for it.
- Raise any concern with access, preparation, scheduling or the site itself.
- Hold a high standard of finish and leave every space immaculate.
- Engage courteously with clients, builders, site managers and suppliers.
- Keep timesheets and job records in good order.
- Move stock, tools and equipment safely in and out of transport, care for your kit and observe workplace health and safety requirements.
Requirements & Eligibility

- Readiness to take direction, to learn and to keep refining your craft.
- The strength to move flooring materials safely and meet the physical side of the position.
- Senior installers hold a full driver licence; among junior and trainee applicants a licence is preferred, and dependable transport to the agreed meeting point is essential.
- At senior level, strong carpet installation skills, running jobs independently and the confidence to organise and support another installer or a small crew, with sheet vinyl and vinyl plank experience highly valued.
- Trainees are not required to bring prior flooring experience; reliability, a desire to learn, practical interest and a good outlook on work are essential.
